EA Surprises FIFA 23 Players with New Update

Electronic Arts (EA) has made an unexpected move by issuing a new update for FIFA 23, providing a fresh incentive for players to return to the game long after its initial release. This decision marks a departure from the company’s usual practice of discontinuing online services for older titles.

As the gaming community dives into EA FC 25, which features a range of exciting new content including the Winter Wild Card promo, anticipation is building for the upcoming Team of the Year cards. This new chapter is keeping gamers engaged, yet it is noteworthy that once a new installment is launched, support for previous titles often wanes.

EA has previously shut down online servers for older titles, as seen with the discontinuation of Battlefield 3, 4, and Hardline for their PS3 and Xbox 360 versions earlier this year. Similarly, FIFA 22 was decommissioned, and FIFA 23 was also removed from EA Play. Despite this, the recent update for FIFA 23 has left players and observers puzzled about the rationale behind maintaining support for a game that was seemingly on the brink of being abandoned.

FIFA 23 Sustains a Healthy Player Base Years After Launch

According to EA FC content creator Riggers, players are now able to complete a new objective in FIFA 23 that rewards them with 30,000 XP simply for listing one card on the transfer market. This objective highlights the game’s ongoing relevance and the sustained interest from the player community.

Riggers noted, “There are still 30,000 items listed on the market for that game at the moment,” suggesting a vibrant environment for players. The requirement of listing just one card indicates EA’s desire to keep community engagement alive, reinforcing the notion that they value the remaining player base.

There are various theories as to why FIFA 23 continues to attract active players. Some articulate that it was “one of the best FIFAs of recent years,” which could explain the ongoing interest in the title. Another user echoed this sentiment by stating, “It’s a much better game.” This positive reception sets FIFA 23 apart from many of its predecessors that have entered the gaming archives.

Ultimately, while most EA titles tend to fade into obscurity after a newer version launches, FIFA 23’s unique situation reflects a noteworthy exception in the gaming landscape, suggesting that strong community support can prompt continued developer engagement.
