Easton Cowan Shines in Overtime for London Knights

In a thrilling match on November 3, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan scored an overtime goal, leading the London Knights to a 2-1 victory over the Owen Sound Attack. Cowan’s wrist shot found the back of the net with just over a minute left in the extra period, marking his point streak at an impressive 46 consecutive regular season games.

This win also extended the Knights’ winning streak to six games, and they have enjoyed success in nine out of their last ten outings. The game showcased a defensive showdown, with both teams combining for 29 shots and hitting two posts in the opening period. Goaltenders Aleksei Medvedev of London and Carter George of Owen Sound were instrumental in keeping the score level at 0-0 through the first two periods.

The first goal of the game came late in the second period, at the 15:44 mark, following a power play for London. Denver Barkey executed a faceoff win which set up Sam Dickinson for a wrist shot. Although George halted the initial attempt, the puck rebounded into the crease where Knights forward Jacob Julien was quick to react, scoring his third goal of the season.

The game remained at 1-0 until the Attack equalized late in the third period. With just 1:10 remaining, Braedyn Rogers connected on a one-timer during Owen Sound’s power play, tying the game at 1-1.

Overtime Heroics

In the overtime period, Cowan stepped up, skillfully maneuvering inside the blue line and executing a low shot that slipped past George, sealing the game for London. Following this victory, the Knights are set to travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, for their next matchup on November 6.

Goaltender Medvedev ended the night with an impressive 38 saves, while George blocked 42 shots for the Attack. Special teams played a role in the game, with London converting 1-for-5 on the power play, and Owen Sound managing a 1-for-4 success rate.

Michael Simpson Achieves Milestone

On another note, Michael Simpson earned his first professional victory during his inaugural start on November 2. The Londoner, who has been juggling between the Belleville Senators and Orlando Solar Bears since the start of his career, recorded 29 saves in a decisive 5-1 win against the Jacksonville Icemen.

Simpson is no stranger to victory, having led the Knights to an OHL Championship in his final season with the team, following a successful stint with the Peterborough Petes where he also claimed a title in 2023.

Looking ahead, the Knights will face the Soo Greyhounds in Sault Ste. Marie on November 6.
