Ed Sheeran admits building his own village is “weird” but wanted privacy for his family.
Ed Sheeran has recently released a new single titled “Azizam.”
In a candid discussion, Ed Sheeran shared his thoughts on creating a secluded estate, describing the endeavor as “weird.” After investing millions to acquire land and properties surrounding his home in Suffolk, England, he developed an extensive compound that features a pub, a chapel, and a lake. Sheeran emphasized that the primary motivation behind this project was to carve out a private space where his family could enjoy tranquility away from public scrutiny.
During a guest appearance on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast, Sheeran commented on the personalized features of his estate: “We built a chapel on our land, and we do Christmas carols there. After these gatherings, we enjoy mulled wine and mince pies with friends and family.” He noted that while the pub can accommodate about 40 to 50 guests, it has a cozy, intimate atmosphere. Sheeran remarked, “I realize it sounds peculiar to construct such facilities on your own property to avoid having to leave, but there are certain occasions when you want to be with your loved ones without being filmed, particularly during special moments like Christmas.”
The pub, named Lancaster Lock, combines elements from his mother’s surname and that of his wife, Cherry. It was inspired by a local pub he frequented during his teenage years.
He reflected on the changes in his life, saying, “You can never really unwind like you used to. In my younger years, going to a pub was about releasing stress. But as my fame grew, everyone knew I frequented that place, and so on my property was a run-down barn that I envisioned transforming into a pub.”
In addition to the pub, Sheeran has integrated his collection of movie memorabilia, along with a cinema and a listening room into the property. He shared, “I even acquired an old pub counter from eBay, which has a tunnel leading to it. In that tunnel, I constructed a listening room and a cinema. It’s not merely a man cave; I prefer to think of it as ‘man catacombs.’
