Ed Sheeran Addresses Police Intervention During Bengaluru Street Performance

Ed Sheeran recently took to social media to provide clarity regarding an incident in Bengaluru, where local police interrupted his scheduled jamming session on Church Street.

Permission for Street Performance

During a spontaneous live performance, videos circulated online showing police halting Sheeran’s act. The British singer-songwriter quickly responded, stating that he had indeed obtained the necessary permissions to busk in that location and that the performance was not an impromptu occurrence.

On his Instagram story, Sheeran explained, “We had permission to busk btw, hence us playing in that exact spot was planned out before, it wasn’t just us randomly turning up. All good though. See ya at the show tonight x.” This response aimed to clarify any misunderstandings regarding the nature of the performance.

Police’s Position on Public Performances

Sheeran was in the midst of performing his hit song ‘Shape Of You’ when the police intervention took place. The Bengaluru City Police later addressed the situation, highlighting their responsibility to ensure public safety at large gatherings and performances. An official emphasized, “Our primary concern is the safety of both the artist and the public. Unauthorized gatherings can pose significant challenges in crowd management and security.”

Public Reaction

The abrupt end to the performance sparked various reactions online, including a comment from AR Rahman’s son, AR Ameen. He expressed his disappointment on Instagram, stating, “Stopping Ed from performing on the streets of Bangalore is a huge disrespect to a global music legend. Artists bring joy and unity through their craft, and such moments should be celebrated, not shut down. This is a loss for the city and its people.”

Upcoming Concerts

Sheeran was in Bengaluru as part of his “+-=÷x Tour,” with planned performances at NICE Grounds on February 8 and 9, 2025. This tour, inspired by his successful albums, has generated considerable excitement among his fan base, promising a setlist filled with well-loved tracks.
