You’ve got mail — snail mail, that is.
A resident of north Edmonton recently received a letter that was originally sent to him in August of 1999, highlighting the curious nature of postal delivery.
“The universe and Canada Post work in mysterious ways,” remarked Warren Wuschenny, reflecting on the unexpected arrival of the long-overdue correspondence this week.
“Who knows what happened to this letter?”

The letter in question was penned by Wuschenny’s cousin, Shannon Shade, who resided in Nanaimo, B.C. at the time. Shade shared her amusement regarding the situation.
“I get slack for not sending cards to family a lot — clearly I do send them. They just need to be more patient!” she humorously commented from Calgary, where she currently lives.
After more than 25 years, the letter, adorned with a 46-cent stamp, was finally delivered on February 12, 2025.
Canada Post explained that in the absence of a service letter, the parcel might have been found and subsequently returned to the mail system. The organization noted, “Our operations teams have seen occasions when customers find mail tucked away or ‘lost’ in a house they’ve just moved into, so the customer will put it back in the mailstream,” as stated in a communication to Global News.
