Match Abandoned as Fiorentina’s Edoardo Bove Collapses on Field
The Serie A clash between Fiorentina and Inter Milan on Sunday was abruptly halted after Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove experienced a medical emergency on the pitch.
According to reports from The Athletic’s James Horncastle, Bove collapsed while tying his shoes during a stoppage in play in the first half. Medical personnel quickly attended to the 22-year-old, who was later transported to a local hospital on a stretcher.
Sky Sport Italia, citing ESPN.com, reported that Bove regained consciousness and is now breathing independently.
Horncastle also highlighted the emotional impact of the incident, noting that players from both teams appeared visibly shaken, with some in tears.
In response to Bove’s condition, match referee Daniele Doveri instructed players to head to their dressing rooms during the medical emergency. After assessing the situation, officials determined to postpone the match for a later date instead of continuing play.
This match was particularly significant, with Inter and Fiorentina positioned third and fourth in the Serie A standings, each having accumulated 28 points. Napoli currently leads the league, holding a four-point advantage after their victory over Torino the same day.
Bove, who is in his inaugural season with Fiorentina, previously developed his skills at AS Roma, making 92 appearances in various competitions for the Giallorossi. Fiorentina secured Bove on a season-long loan in August, with the provision for a potential permanent transfer as part of the agreement.
