A recent meta-analysis has revealed that public schools may not be as effective as private schools in equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary for active citizenship.
In an enlightening discussion on the Education Exchange podcast, Patrick J. Wolf, a professor of Education Policy at the University of Arkansas, shared insights from his latest research focusing on the role of private education in fostering civic engagement among students. Wolf appeared alongside Paul E. Peterson to delve into the findings of the study.
The study, titled The Public Purposes of Private Education: a Civic Outcomes Meta-Analysis, co-authored by M. Danish Shakeel, Alison Heap Johnson, Mattie A. Harris, and Sarah R. Morris, is accessible in the Educational Psychology Review.
This research critically examines the civic outcomes associated with different types of educational institutions, suggesting that private schools might offer a distinct advantage in preparing students to be informed and active members of their communities.
