The Final Season of The Handmaid’s Tale: Insights from the Cast at PaleyFest 2025

TV Insider attended the red carpet event at PaleyFest 2025, where the cast and producers of The Handmaid’s Tale engaged in discussions regarding the highly anticipated final season of the series.

Elisabeth Moss, who plays the lead character June Osborne and serves as an executive producer and director, shared insights about the series conclusion. Having last been seen escaping on a train with baby Nichole, Moss hinted at the emotional depth of the finale, suggesting that while her comments might seem ambiguous, audiences will ultimately grasp their significance.

When asked what she hopes viewers will derive from the series, Moss replied, “I hope that they take hope. I hope that they take a feeling that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and I hope that it’s the beginning of a story as well as an end.” This perspective reflects a desire to leave the audience with a sense of optimism.

With a playful tone, Moss quipped, “That is more of a spoiler than you would guess!” emphasizing the layered storytelling that has characterized the series.

As The Handmaid’s Tale nears its conclusion, the narrative will continue through the spin-off series The Testaments, which Moss will also help produce. “I am looking forward to it,” she expressed with enthusiasm, noting that knowledge of the sequel series allowed for creative freedom in concluding the original story. “It gave us a lot of liberty with how The Handmaid’s Tale will conclude — or rather, maybe not fully conclude,” Moss explained.

She elaborated on this creative freedom, saying, “We didn’t have to worry about ‘Was this the end, the end, the end,’ you know what I mean? We are able to say, ‘Maybe we’ll come back to that?’ That was really liberating.”

Though there are currently no plans for Moss to make an on-screen appearance in The Testaments, she humorously addressed the possibility when asked about it. “I mean, ‘No,’” she stated, quickly adding with a grin, “[But] I would totally lie to you if I was!”
