Elle Fanning May Step Into Effie Trinket Role in Upcoming Hunger Games Prequel
Elle Fanning is being considered for the role of a younger Effie Trinket in the anticipated film “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” according to reports confirmed by TheWrap. This marks a new chapter in the film franchise, which originally featured Elizabeth Banks portraying Effie in the earlier movies.
As reported by Nexus Point News, Fanning would take on the character prior to her role as the District 12 escort, set twenty-four years before the timeline of the initial film adaptation.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, who has helmed every installment of the series since “Catching Fire,” “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” is part of a larger narrative that includes the forthcoming prequel, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” set to release in 2024. The new film will explore the intricate dynamics of Panem on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also recognized as the Second Quarter Quell. The story will focus on a younger Haymitch Abernathy, the character famously portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the previous films.
The production will be overseen by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson from Color Force, while Cameron MacConomy is on board as an executive producer. Lionsgate has assigned Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien to manage the project.
Fanning, who was last seen in “A Complete Unknown” alongside Timothée Chalamet, is also set to appear in the upcoming film “Predator: Badlands,” directed by Dan Trachtenberg, which will be released in theaters on November 7. Currently, she is represented by UTA and TFC Management.
As of now, Lionsgate has not provided any comments regarding this latest development. “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” is scheduled to debut in theaters on November 20, 2026.
