In a recent vlog, Elvish Yadav addressed the fierce backlash stemming from his comments about Bigg Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang. The YouTuber found himself in hot water after remarks made during a podcast with Rajat Dalal went viral, igniting accusations of racism. Responding to the uproar, Yadav acknowledged that he had removed the controversial section from his podcast.

Addressing Public Outrage

During his vlog, Yadav expressed his awareness of the social media outcry over what many perceived as racially charged comments. He stated, “I checked to see if I made any racist remarks. Yes, I had commented on Chum. I decided to remove that part; I don’t want negativity. If someone was hurt by my words, I’ve taken it out.”

Yadav’s comments referenced a fellow contestant, Karan Veer, in a context that many misinterpreted, leading to accusations of insensitivity. He clarified that his statement about Karan Veer potentially having COVID-19 was made in jest and was not meant to affiliate Chum with the Chinese ethnicity. He stated, “People are misinterpreting my joke. I mentioned Karan Veer might have lost his taste due to COVID, and that’s why he liked Chum.”

Defending His Intent

Further defending himself, Yadav implored viewers to carefully consider the context of his comments. “I’m not so low that I would insult someone. I avoid making such comments entirely,” he asserted. He emphasized his intention to discourage such behavior among his followers, admitting that any misunderstanding regarding his words was unfortunate. “If something I said was genuinely understood as offensive, then that’s wrong. However, I won’t apologize for the additional narratives created around my words.”

Context of His Comments

In the earlier podcast episode, Elvish Yadav suggested, “Karanveer must have had COVID because who else finds Chum appealing? To lose one’s taste to that extent! Besides, Chum’s name itself carries a certain implicitness…” This remark was a catalyst for the backlash he experienced.

Yadav’s situation highlights the complex nature of public discourse, particularly as it relates to humor and cultural sensitivity. As social media continues to amplify perceptions rapidly, the responsibility of influencers to navigate their words carefully becomes paramount.
