Eminem Takes Center Stage at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards
The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards kicked off with a high-energy performance by Eminem, showcasing tracks from his latest release, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). The event took place at the UBS Arena in Long Island, where Eminem captivated audiences with live renditions of “Houdini” and “Somebody Save Me.”
In a nod to his iconic past, Eminem recreated his renowned 2000 VMA set, where he performed “The Real Slim Shady” surrounded by doppelgängers. This year, Eminem’s performance featured him and his lookalikes donning ill-fitting blonde wigs and dark beards during “Houdini.” Additionally, Jelly Roll made a special appearance through a virtual duet on “Somebody Save Me.”
This performance marked the second time Eminem has opened the VMAs, his first being in 2010 with hits including “Not Afraid” and his collaboration with Rihanna, “Love the Way You Lie.”
In the 2024 VMAs, Eminem received nominations in eight different categories, seeking to surpass Phil Collins for the most wins in the history of the awards. Ultimately, he secured two victories, taking home the awards for Best Hip-Hop and Best Visual Effects for “Houdini.”
With a rich history at the VMAs, Eminem has made several appearances over the years. His most recent performance was in 2022, where he collaborated with Snoop Dogg as digital avatars. In 2012, he took the stage with Snoop and Dr. Dre, performing classics like “Forgot About Dre” and “Still D.R.E.”
