Jeb Burton Questions NASCAR’s Caution Decision at Talladega
Jeb Burton, a two-time winner at Talladega in the Xfinity series, has expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of Saturday’s race. During a critical moment when he was contending for the lead amid a three-wide battle, the caution flag was waved after Connor Zilisch encountered a hard hit against the inside wall. Zilisch, however, had previously taken himself out of contention moments earlier.
Upon reviewing the situation, NASCAR officials concluded that Austin Hill had a slight edge over Burton at the time the caution was issued, documenting their decision with various camera angles. Burton, who has not secured a victory in two years, voiced his frustration regarding the final ruling, insisting he believed he was ahead when the caution came out.
“I feel like when the caution flew, I was ahead of the #21 [Hill],” Burton stated emphatically. He recalled a prior incident at Rockingham where he felt unfairly treated by a yellow flag that cost him positions. “Today, we lose the race because of a timing line. I don’t see the #21 ahead of me at all during this time. My nose was in front,” he added.
Burton expressed a desire to see more camera angles, as he was not satisfied with those shown by NASCAR. “From every angle I keep seeing, we win the race. It’s just frustrating. They need to look at it again,” he commented.
While revisiting the incident, Burton grew increasingly emotional, emphasizing the importance of the moment. “Look at the tire ahead of his tire,” he noted, indicating that the decision should be reconsidered. He expressed determination to take further action, stating, “We’re gonna protest if we can. We will do whatever it takes because I believe we won this race.”
As emotions took over, Burton fought back tears while speaking to CW Sports, reflecting on the challenges his Jordan Anderson Racing team faces. “We don’t have a lot of chances to win. That’s what is frustrating,” he said, before stepping away, visibly shaken, as he wiped his tears and tossed a water bottle onto the infield.
