Emraan Hashmi Explores His ‘Serial Kisser’ Label on Ranveer Allahbadia’s Podcast
Emraan Hashmi recently joined Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast, where he candidly discussed the enduring ‘serial kisser’ label that has been associated with him throughout his career. The veteran Bollywood actor reflected on the challenges posed by this moniker, revealing that it once caused him considerable frustration.
Hashmi revealed that the tag became heavily utilized in marketing strategies, leading to an abundance of kissing scenes in films, even when they might not have been necessary to the narrative. He expressed his sentiment concerning the label’s impact on how audiences perceived him.
“At one point, I found it quite annoying. I wanted to be seen and taken more seriously in my craft. From 2003 to 2012, that image overshadowed my work. The label was used as a marketing tool, and unnecessary elements were often added to films. The media frequently labeled me as the ‘serial kisser,’ which stemmed from my early career choices. I acknowledge my role in that,” he shared.
The 46-year-old actor elaborated on his attempts to evolve beyond this image, noting that it was often a challenge to break away from public expectations. “Once you surpass that phase, your ambition is to explore new opportunities and depths as an actor. You strive to present varied performances. However, audiences would often express disappointment when my new roles didn’t align with their expectations of me. I would be presenting something fresh, but they would respond with ‘oh, this isn’t what we expected.’ That would frustrate me at times. Despite that, I remain at peace with the label now,” he conveyed.
Hashmi’s ‘serial kisser’ identity was largely solidified through his involvement in the popular murder thriller franchise. Recently, he appeared in Karan Johar’s web series, Showtime, and he is set to star in two upcoming Telugu films, OG and G2, further showcasing his versatility as an actor.
