Siri, play Clair de lune as you delve into this review.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is rapidly gaining traction as a contender for Game of the Year, with nearly 120,000 concurrent players on Steam and surpassing one million sales. While the PC version stands out for its technical prowess, there are a few minor issues that players should be aware of.
If you’re utilizing a PlayStation controller, you may encounter Xbox prompts, which can be inconsistent across different controller types. If you’re experiencing issues with the prompts not displaying correctly in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, there’s a straightforward way to resolve this.
How to Enable PlayStation Button Prompts in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 natively supports all major PlayStation controllers on PC, which means devices like the DualShock 4, DualSense, or DualSense Edge should work seamlessly without needing to rely on Steam Input.
However, there’s a quirk: the game typically shows the correct in-game button prompts only with a DualSense controller connected. For those using a DualShock 4, you may notice Xbox prompts instead.
Fortunately, there is a solution that bypasses these incorrect prompts altogether, allowing you to display PlayStation prompts no matter which controller is connected, thanks to a mod.
Using the Force PS5 Controller Icons Mod
A mod developed by NexusMods user Pottty modifies the game to automatically switch the button prompts to PlayStation icons, regardless of the controller in use. Essentially, it streamlines the process by editing the configuration file for you. Here’s how to install it:
First, visit the provided link and download the mod files. You will need to create a free NexusMods account for access.
This will give you a zip file, which you need to extract to the directory where Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is installed:
\Expedition 33\Sandfall\Content\Paks
After extraction, launch Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and the appropriate PlayStation prompts will appear instead of the Xbox ones.
If you ever decide to uninstall the mod, simply navigate to the Paks folder and delete the following files:
- Force_PS5_Buttons.ucas
- Force_PS5_Buttons.utoc
- Force_PS5_Buttons.pak
Hopefully, this is something the developers will address in a future update, but until then, using this mod provides a quick and easy workaround.
