Exploring Special Education Services for Students with Disabilities
Across the United States, over 7 million K-12 students are eligible for special education services. These services encompass a variety of supports, such as assistive technology, tailored small-group instruction, extended time for tests, and various therapeutic interventions. Unfortunately, in many states, graduation rates among students with disabilities lag behind those of their peers, and the overall quality of education they receive can differ significantly.
To gain a deeper understanding of the current educational experiences of students with disabilities, we seek insights from those familiar with the special education landscape. We welcome perspectives on whether these students are receiving the educational resources and support they need.
Please share your insights with our team by filling out the form below. Your feedback may inform our reporting on this important issue.
We are particularly interested in hearing your thoughts on the following questions: Are there particular ways in which students in special education are underserved? What services or resources do you feel are lacking in special education classrooms? Who do you believe has the power to address these shortcomings? Conversely, what examples can you share of special education programs that are effectively meeting students’ needs?
