England to Host Australia in Rugby League Ashes After Two Decades

England has confirmed that it will compete against their longstanding rivals, Australia, in the rugby league Ashes this October. This marks the first time the two nations have met in this series since 2003, reviving a historic rivalry that resonates deeply with fans of the sport.

The eagerly anticipated Test matches are scheduled to take place in three iconic venues: London, Liverpool, and Leeds, spread across three consecutive Saturdays starting October 25.

Significantly, this tour will feature the inaugural rugby league international match at Wembley Stadium since the 2013 World Cup. Additionally, the setting will include Everton’s newly opened Bramley-Moore Dock stadium in Liverpool—launched just last month, along with Headingley Stadium in Leeds.

Following the announcement, Everton’s Interim Chief Executive, Colin Chong, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are delighted to welcome the Rugby League Ashes series to Everton Stadium this autumn. Our venue is designed to host premier sporting and entertainment events, and securing this international fixture underscores its status as one of the UK’s premier venues.”

He continued, “The rivalry between England and Australia in rugby league has a deep-rooted history. We look forward to welcoming fans to our city and stadium, which promises an unforgettable experience along the banks of the River Mersey.”

Australia has dominated the Ashes series in recent decades, having won the last 13 series since 1970 when the competition was last under the Great Britain banner. The last encounter between the two sides occurred in the 2017 World Cup final, where Australia narrowly secured victory with a score of 6-0. The previous Ashes series in 2003 saw Australia win all three Test matches, highlighting their consistent superiority in this fierce rivalry.

Test Match Schedule

First Test – Saturday, October 25, Wembley Stadium, London

Second Test – Saturday, November 1, Everton Stadium, Liverpool

Third Test – Saturday, November 8, Headingley Stadium, Leeds

Sky Sports will continue to provide comprehensive coverage of the Super League, including live broadcasts of all matches this season. Fans can expect two exclusive live matches from each round as well as additional coverage available via Sky Sports+.
