Google is expanding its Gemini-backed functionalities for users of its Workspace Business and Enterprise editions. Notable updates include a new feature for Google Meet called “Studio Look” aimed at enhancing camera clarity, alongside improvements to Google Chat that introduce an in-app translation feature for a broader user base. Additionally, a Gemini-powered side panel has been integrated into Gmail, enabling users to seamlessly add calendar events from their emails.
As Google continues to enhance its Workspace suite with the capabilities of Gemini, this latest update significantly impacts its communication tools.
The company recently shared detailed notes regarding how Gemini aims to enhance the user experience in its Business and Enterprise editions, as reported by 9to5Google. This update, which is rolling out on March 11, primarily targets users who utilize Meet and Chat frequently. The most significant advancements are being made in Google Meet, as it will introduce the new “Studio” feature.
With respect to Google Meet, the Gemini upgrade will now allow for a feature called “Studio Look,” which uses AI to detect and enhance the appearance of users during meetings. This functionality aims to improve image clarity and reduce blurriness in video calls.
In addition to “Studio Look,” Google has reiterated existing enhancements such as “Studio Sound” and “Studio Lighting.” The “Studio Sound” feature is designed to balance audio quality by addressing distortions and filling gaps in the voice captured by the microphone, while “Studio Lighting” leverages AI to mimic professional studio lighting conditions. Users are encouraged to refer to Google’s comprehensive support document to verify device compatibility for these features.
Additionally, Google has highlighted the capability to generate custom background images within Meet, emphasizing that this feature, which started rolling out a week ago, provides a variety of background options, including a professional office, a cozy living room, a tropical beach, and more.
On the Google Chat front, users will benefit from a feature called “translate for me,” which employs AI to automatically identify and translate over 120 languages into users’ preferred languages. Furthermore, Gemini has also made its way into Google Drawing, introducing a “background image removal” feature.
Both the Chat and Drawing functionalities are now accessible to users.
In terms of the timeline for these Meet features, Google has announced that custom backgrounds, studio sound, and lighting begin rolling out today (March 11), with the “Studio Look” feature set to debut on March 18. It is important to note that these functionalities will be exclusive to Workspace Business and Enterprise editions.
Additionally, an update that arrived for Gmail recently improved integration with the Calendar, providing users with an “add to calendar” button that activates when Gemini identifies significant dates in emails. By clicking this button, users can have events automatically generated in their calendar, a feature that builds on AI capabilities introduced in Gemini’s 1.5 Pro Labs testing phase last year.
