Actor Eric Dane Reveals ALS Diagnosis
Motor neuron disease, commonly referred to as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), is a severe and progressive neurodegenerative condition that currently lacks a cure. This disease has claimed the lives of many notable individuals, including renowned figures such as David Niven, Sam Shepard, and Stephen Hawking, among others. The prognosis for those diagnosed with ALS is often bleak, with physicians typically estimating a life expectancy of two to three years post-diagnosis, although there are exceptional cases like Hawking, who lived for more than five decades with the illness.
Recently, actor Eric Dane, known for his compelling performances in various television series and films, publicly announced his own battle with ALS. In a heartfelt statement to People, Dane expressed: “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week […] I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
At 52 years old, Dane has earned acclaim for his work in the entertainment industry, with significant roles across several hit series, including Charmed and Grey’s Anatomy. He currently stars in HBO’s Euphoria, where his performance has garnered a strong following. Beyond his role in Euphoria, he has established a diverse filmography that includes titles like Grey Lady, American Carnage, and Borderline. As he prepares for the upcoming third season of Euphoria, Dane is also set to star in new series like Kabul and Countdown, along with anticipated films such as Into the Beautiful and Family Secrets.
Dane shares two daughters, Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13, with his partner, Rebecca Gayheart.
