Eric Dane has publicly disclosed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a condition known for its severe impact on physical capabilities.
The actor, known for his roles in “Euphoria” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” spoke to PEOPLE about his health journey, expressing gratitude for his family’s support during this challenging time: “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
Despite the gravity of his diagnosis, Dane revealed his intention to continue his work in the entertainment industry. He plans to return to filming the new season of “Euphoria” next week, with production set to commence on Monday.
Eric’s acknowledgment of his family’s support is particularly poignant given recent developments in his personal life. His wife, Rebecca Gayheart, filed legal documents in March to withdraw her divorce petition that had been active since February 2018, indicating a shift in their relationship which has spanned 14 years.
ALS, often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a disorder that deteriorates the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to progressive muscle weakness and loss of control over bodily functions, according to information from the Mayo Clinic.
At present, there is no cure for ALS, making early diagnosis and supportive care critical for managing the disease.
