Carl Weathers may no longer be with us, but his legacy in the “Toy Story” franchise continues, as Ernie Hudson steps into the role of Combat Carl, according to reports from production insiders.
The iconic star of “Ghostbusters” has been cast to replace the late Weathers, who portrayed the character before his passing at the age of 76 last year.
Combat Carl represents a G.I. Joe-style action figure within the “Toy Story” universe. Weathers’ previous work in action films, most notably “Predator,” made his original casting a fitting choice, and now Hudson seems poised to carry that torch.
It is worth noting that the beloved actor passed away peacefully in February 2024, surrounded by family, due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
His unexpected death left the entertainment world in shock, especially considering his continued involvement in major projects, like Disney’s “The Mandalorian,” which had many unaware of his health struggles.
Fortunately, the character Combat Carl is now in capable hands, with Hudson bringing his own impressive career and charisma to the part, fresh off his role in the “Ghostbusters” series.
Hudson’s portrayal of Combat Carl is highly anticipated and will mark his debut in the iconic role in the forthcoming “Toy Story 5,” set to premiere next summer.
