Sydney Sweeney has officially joined the cast of the upcoming film ‘Split Fiction’.

The screenplay for this adaptation of the popular video game is being crafted by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, renowned for their work on the ‘Deadpool’ franchise. Variety reports that Sweeney will play a significant role in the film, directed by Jon M. Chu, known for his adept storytelling. The narrative revolves around authors Mio and Zoe, who find themselves ensnared in the fantastical realms they created. However, it remains unclear whether Sweeney will take on the role of Zoe or Mio. The video game ‘Split Fiction’ has already distinguished itself by selling over two million copies in its initial week following its release in March.

Sweeney’s involvement in video game adaptations doesn’t stop there. Recently, details emerged about her collaboration with Michael Bay on an adaptation of the classic arcade game ‘OutRun’. As reported by Deadline, the 27-year-old actress will not only star in but also produce the film in conjunction with Bay, who will direct the project for Universal Pictures. This marks another foray for Sweeney into the gaming world, further highlighting her expanding career.

In addition to directing, Bay is set to produce ‘OutRun’ alongside his partner Brad Fuller, as well as Sega representatives Toru Nakahara and Shuji Utsumi. Although Sweeney is confirmed as a producer for the film, she is not currently in discussions to appear in it. Details regarding the plot or additional cast members remain undisclosed at this time.

First released in 1986, the ‘OutRun’ game challenged players to navigate through traffic under time constraints, pioneering a new genre of racing games. It led to several sequels and spin-offs, including ‘OutRunners’ in 1993 and ‘OutRun Online Arcade’ in 2009. Furthermore, in March, Sweeney announced her role as both lead and producer for the film ‘I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl’, under her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films.
