In a thrilling encounter, Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich secured a 4-3 victory against Holstein Kiel on Saturday, but not without a dramatic second-half collapse that saw them concede three goals. Star striker Harry Kane was instrumental in the win, netting two goals and setting a record for the most goals scored in the first 50 league appearances, reaching a total of 55 goals.
Despite their strong first-half performance, Bayern allowed the game to become precarious in the latter stages, conceding three times in a span of 28 minutes. However, they managed to maintain their position at the top of the league with a nine-point lead.
Kane’s contributions were notable, as he demonstrated not only his goal-scoring ability but also his calm temperament on the pitch. Bayern’s head coach, Vincent Kompany, praised Kane, noting, “His quality is just unusual. It is also his mentality. How calm he remains, how hard he works even if he does not score for a game… it is impressive.”
Reviewing the Performance
Coach Kompany expressed dissatisfaction regarding the team’s closing moments. “The last 10 minutes is something we need to review with the players. Conceding a goal is one thing, but losing momentum offers an opportunity to the opposition,” he remarked.
Jamal Musiala opened the scoring for Bayern in the 19th minute after Holstein Kiel squandered a prime opportunity. Serge Gnabry’s remarkable volleyed goal in the 54th minute initially seemed to secure Bayern’s dominance. However, things took a turn as Finn Porath reduced the deficit, followed by two stoppage time goals from Steven Skrzybski, making for a nervous finish.
Later in the league, the reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen, currently second in the standings, are set to face Hoffenheim.
Borussia Dortmund experienced relief after a 2-1 victory over Heidenheim, marking their first win in five matches. Interim coach Mike Tullberg, set to be succeeded by Niko Kovac, saw his team take the lead in the 33rd minute through Serhou Guirassy, who found himself unmarked in the box. A goal from Maximilian Beier levelled the score momentarily, but Dortmund ultimately secured the win.
In France, Paris Saint-Germain continued their unbeaten streak in Ligue 1, boasting a 5-2 victory against Brest. Ousmane Dembélé notched his second hat-trick in just a week, scoring three times in the match. After opening the scoring with a simple tap-in, Dembélé quickly restored PSG’s lead following an equalizer from Romain Del Castillo.
Despite Ludovic Ajorque’s 71st-minute score for Brest, Gonçalo Ramos added two late goals to ensure an emphatic victory for PSG, who are now 13 points ahead of second-placed Marseille.
Lastly, Atlético Madrid defeated Mallorca 2-0, marking a significant turnaround under manager Diego Simeone, who celebrated his 500th La Liga match in charge. Samuel Lino and Antoine Griezmann provided the goals that lifted Atlético to second place in the league, just one point shy of leaders Real Madrid.
