This delightful musical, a continuation of the story first seen in Josefina LĂłpez’s play and the renowned film adaptation, presents a humorous yet sincere exploration of shared human experiences. Set in the summer of 1987, viewers follow Ana Garcia, whose aspirations take a back seat as her family faces a crucial challenge: producing 200 dresses. This scenario thrusts Ana into a struggle between her personal dreams and familial expectations, underscoring the complex dynamics within a community of women striving to succeed.
The cast includes Broadway newcomer Tatianna CĂłrdoba as Ana, alongside Justina Machado as Carmen, Ana’s determined mother, and a strong ensemble featuring Florencia Cuenca, Shelby Acosta, Carla Jimenez, and others in significant roles. The show aims to bring fresh talent to the Broadway scene while honoring established names within the industry.
Fronted by Tony and Olivier Award-winning director and choreographer Sergio Trujillo, the musical showcases a score by Grammy Award-winning artist Joy Huerta and composer Benjamin Velez. The book is penned by Lisa Loomer with contributions from Nell Benjamin.
