Firefighters are currently tackling a vegetation fire located in the 1600 block of Lower Springs Road and Eureka Way.
The Lower Fire is advancing at a moderate rate of spread.
Numerous resources, including aerial support, are actively engaged in combating the blaze, which is situated near Highway 299, west of Redding.
7 p.m. Saturday: Lower Fire expands to 110 acres; Evacuation shelter set up
As reported by Cal Fire spokesperson Jas Shaw, the Lower Fire has grown to encompass 110 acres. Shaw mentioned that aircraft will continue to assist with firefighting efforts for the next several hours and noted that crews are “making good progress.” Firefighters are expected to remain on the scene throughout the night. An evacuation shelter for those affected by the fire has been established at Central Valley High School, located at 4066 La Mesa Avenue in the City of Shasta Lake.
Saturday: Lower Fire erupts west of Redding; evacuations mandated and part of Highway 299 closed
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office issued mandatory evacuation orders due to the Lower Fire, burning near Highway 299 west of Redding, just before 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Evacuation orders are specifically targeting the following zones: SHS-2830, SHS-2820, SHS-6520, SHS-6530, SHS-6540, SHS-2850, SHS-2800, SHS-2870, and KES-2790.
Additionally, evacuation warnings are in effect for zones: SHS-2880, SHS-2890, KES-2760, KES-2770, KES-2750, and KES-2900.

The fire ignited shortly before 4 p.m. as reported by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. By 6 p.m., the size of the fire had escalated to 110 acres, according to Cal Fire figures.
As a safety measure, Highway 299 is closed to all vehicles at Buenaventura Boulevard and Old Shasta.
The designated evacuation collection point is located at the shopping center at the intersection of Eureka Way and Buenaventura Boulevard.
