In the May edition of Bon Appétit, we delve into the fascinating relationship between food and art. The way food inspires artistic expression is remarkable, as seen in creations like a stunning Loewe clutch shaped like a tomato and extraordinary cutlery that’s almost too lovely to utilize. Conversely, art also serves as a muse for culinary innovation.
Our test kitchen embraced this idea, working to craft recipes inspired by famous artworks. One example is the Green Falafel Smash Burgers, inspired by Helen Frankenthaler’s painting Summer View, featuring two herbed chickpea patties layered with fresh lettuce, cucumbers, and a zesty harissa mayo. Additionally, our Neapolitan Cake pays homage to Wayne Thiebaud’s renowned Cake Slice, showcasing distinct layers infused with freeze-dried strawberries, cocoa powder, and rich vanilla extract.
If you’re in search of quick and delicious weeknight meals, look no further. Our collection includes delightful spring-inspired dishes like the Shrimp and Pea Pancakes and a comforting vegetarian chowder that features cauliflower and potatoes topped with Old Bay oyster crackers, ensuring that even without clams, the flavor remains satisfying.
