Former Ozzy Osbourne Guitarist Jake E. Lee Shot Multiple Times in Las Vegas

Jake E. Lee, renowned for his tenure as the guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne during the 1980s, was the victim of a street shooting in Las Vegas early on Tuesday morning, October 15. His management has confirmed that he was shot multiple times but is currently in intensive care and expected to make a full recovery.

A statement released by Lee’s publicist conveyed the details of the incident: “As confirmed by management, legendary rock guitarist Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne, Badlands, Red Dragon Cartel) was shot multiple times early this morning in a Las Vegas, NV street shooting. Lee is fully conscious and doing well in an intensive care unit at a Las Vegas hospital. He is expected to fully recover.”

Authorities in Las Vegas have described the shooting as a random act, occurring while Lee was walking his dog during the early hours of the morning. The investigation is ongoing, and as such, no additional comments have been provided, although Lee and his family have requested privacy during this challenging time.

Jake E. Lee was part of Ozzy Osbourne’s band from 1982 until 1987, contributing his guitar skills to albums such as Bark at the Moon (1983) and The Ultimate Sin (1986). He later gained recognition with the metal band Badlands in the late ’80s and early ’90s and more recently led the group Red Dragon Cartel.

After a prolonged period away from the stage, the 67-year-old guitarist made a recent appearance on the Tone Talk podcast, where he shared updates regarding his health and struggles. Lee had initially believed he was suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, impeding his ability to play. However, subsequent medical evaluations revealed that the problem was more complex.

During his podcast appearance, Lee explained, “I thought I had carpal tunnel. I went to a neurologist, and they poked the needles in me and then zapped me. They said I had carpal tunnel. So then I made an appointment with a wrist surgeon, which took a while. I went there. She asked to see some X-rays, which nobody had ever done. She said, ‘Well, before we talk about surgery…’ She took X-rays, came back and said, ‘You don’t have carpal tunnel. You don’t have it. If anybody had taken an X-ray of your wrist, they would have seen you don’t have carpal tunnel.’”

He continued, discussing the physical issues he faces: “Apparently I don’t have any cartilage left in [my right] hand. She said I have very little in [my left hand], but [my left one] doesn’t bother me. So it’s all bone on bone, rubbing against each other, and that’s agitating it. So, right now, I’m getting cortisone shots in the wrist — lots of fun — and physical therapy to get the muscles stronger around it, do a lot of stretching. It’s about pain management now.”

Fans and fellow musicians are sending well wishes for Jake E. Lee’s swift recovery from this traumatic experience. An interview from Tone Talk provides further insights into his current health challenges and passion for music.
