Get an exclusive preview of the musical The Impossible Man, featuring Broadway star Ryan Silverman, known for his work in productions like Side Show, Chicago, and The Phantom of the Opera. This world premiere will take place in April at the renowned Ariston Theatre in Sanremo, Italy, a location celebrated for hosting one of the largest music festivals globally.
The musical is set to officially open on Halloween night in 2026, marking a century since the legendary magician Harry Houdini’s mysterious “disappearance.” Further details about the production are anticipated soon.
The Impossible Man boasts over 20 stage illusions, including some that have never before been showcased. Fede Bellone, who previously collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber on The Phantom of the Opera, serves as the writer and director.
Alongside Silverman as Houdini, the cast features Alice Mistroni portraying Bess Houdini, Lewis Griffiths as Theo Houdini, and Russell Spellman as the host of the annual séance held for Houdini.
The musical’s score, influenced by Houdini’s Hungarian roots, is composed by Gio Lori, known for his work on Anastasia in Europe. The impressive illusions include a new rendition of an elephant appearing on stage and a fresh interpretation of the classic Chinese Water Torture Cell. The show’s magical orchestration is handled by Paolo Carta, recognized for his contributions to Mary Poppins, Ghost, and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory in Europe, with choreography directed by Gillian Bruce from the latest production of The Phantom.
Rooted in the true story of Houdini, The Impossible Man portrays the final performance of this iconic magician in Detroit, intertwining the onstage events with behind-the-scenes moments, alongside poignant flashbacks that explore his past.
