The Challenge 40: Derrick Kosinski and Averey Tressler Discuss Their Elimination
On the latest episode of “The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras,” participants were thrust into a “Gladiator”-inspired showdown. Derrick Kosinski and Averey Tressler faced off in a boxing-style elimination called “Fate of the Gladiators,” but were ultimately bested by Cory Wharton and Rachel Robinson, respectively. Check out their exit interview with Gold Derby above.
Derrick, who was competing despite a torn ACL and meniscus, expressed his disappointment but acknowledged the challenges he faced. “It would have been a lot cooler if I did win,” he reflected. Derrick explained that even if he had emerged victorious, he had already planned to leave the game soon due to his injury. “Had I won that, I would have had 3-0 in eliminations,” he said, adding that winning with a physical setback would have given him a sense of accomplishment. He shared that he had to wait six weeks to have knee surgery after his wife gave birth, highlighting the personal sacrifices he made.
Averey, who entered the ring knowing the outcome, had a lighthearted perspective on her match against Rachel. “I already knew what was going to happen,” she admitted, recalling that she had asked Rachel not to go too hard on her. “I didn’t want to leave with a black eye.” She explained a significant detail that viewers might have missed during the broadcast: “We were not allowed to block our face. That’s the thing that they didn’t show,” she said, providing some insight into the rules of their elimination battle.
As they exited the competition, both Derrick and Averey had the chance to rank their fellow competitors on a scale of 1-5. Derrick shared that he rated Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, Ryan Kehoe, and Rachel highly, while giving lower scores to the men on the Blue team, including Devin Walker, Jordan Wiseley, and Cory. Averey noted that she ranked Jordan highly as well, emphasizing her intention to support competitors she believed in.
Reflecting on his tenure on “The Challenge,” Derrick took pride in holding the record for individual elimination wins, boasting 13 victories. “I was on a roll. I thought I could beat [Cory] with one leg,” he said, acknowledging the close nature of the competition despite his defeat.
When asked about their ideal partners for a potential return to the game, both Derrick and Averey were quick in their selections. Rachel was their unanimous choice for the top female, while Derrick expressed interest in teaming up with either Bananas, Darrell Taylor, or Mark Long. Averey, on the other hand, expressed a desire to work with Jordan.
