GloRilla Shines on SNL with Grammy-Nominated Performance
Memphis rapper GloRilla made her debut on Saturday Night Live, captivating audiences with her performance of “Yeah Glo!” alongside a medley of songs from her inaugural studio album, Glorious.
“Yeah Glo!,” featured on GloRilla’s April 2024 mixtape Ehhthang Ehhthang, is a contender for Grammy Awards in the categories of Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. The track has also garnered attention during last year’s MTV Video Music Awards, BET Awards, and BET Hip Hop Awards, indicating its widespread acclaim. Its popularity was notably amplified after Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was spotted singing along to the song.
GloRilla expressed her astonishment at the song’s success, stating, “I was shocked,” in an interview with the Associated Press last October. “I knew it was a good song. Every time I played it for people, they loved it. I didn’t know it would go as crazy as it did.”
Her acclaim has only grown, especially after receiving praise from music icon Beyoncé, further enhancing her visibility in the industry.
During her SNL appearance, GloRilla seamlessly transitioned from her song “Whatchu Kno About Me,” written in collaboration with rapper Sexyy Red, to “Let Her Cook,” showcasing her versatility and stage presence.
As the most nominated artist for next month’s NAACP Image Awards, GloRilla has quickly made a name for herself. Last year, she opened for Megan Thee Stallion during the U.S. dates of the successful Hot Girl Summer tour. Her summer hit, “TGIF,” was another highlight from her album Glorious.
Looking ahead, GloRilla is set to perform in Detroit this Sunday, with future dates planned in California and Arizona next month, followed by shows in Texas in March. She is also slated to appear at the Bonnaroo music festival in Manchester, Tennessee, this June.
