Excitement Builds for the Upcoming Musical SMASH on Broadway

A young girl’s dream of performing on Broadway is about to take shape as rehearsals for the highly anticipated musical SMASH kick off. Audiences can step into the rehearsal room along with a remarkable cast including Krysta Rodriguez, Robyn Hurder, Brooks Ashmanskas, Marc Shaiman, Caroline Bowman, and others.

The rehearsal process is under the expert guidance of director Susan Stroman, a five-time Tony Award winner, who addresses the cast while they catch their first glimpses of the vibrant show art and costume sketches that will help bring their characters to life.

SMASH is slated to begin performances on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, with its official opening scheduled for Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the historic Imperial Theatre on Broadway.

The production boasts an impressive lineup of talent including Tony nominee Robyn Hurder portraying “Ivy,” alongside two-time Tony nominee Brooks Ashmanskas as “Nigel,” Krysta Rodriguez in the role of “Tracy,” and John Behlmann as “Jerry.” The cast will also feature Kristine Nielsen as “Susan,” Caroline Bowman as “Karen,” Jacqueline B. Arnold as “Anita,” Bella Coppola as “Chloe,” Casey Garvin as “Charlie,” and Nicholas Matos as “Scott.”

Completing the ensemble are Wendi Bergamini, Sarah Bowden, Jacob Burns, Deanna Cudjoe, Chelle Denton, Daniel Gaymon, Merritt David Janes, Ndaya Dream Hoskins, Megan Kane, David Paul Kidder, Ian Liberto, Libby Lloyd, McGee Maddox, Connor McRory, J Savage, Jake Trammel, and Katie Webber.

The score for SMASH will be crafted by the talented duo of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who have each received Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Awards. They have arranged over two dozen songs originally written for the acclaimed television show, alongside fresh pieces for the stage adaptation. The musical features a book from the experienced hands of Rick Elice, a four-time Tony nominee, and Tony winner Bob Martin. Choreography will be led by EGOT winner Joshua Bergasse, who also choreographed the popular TV series. Notably, Jennifer Hudson, who appeared as a guest star in the second season of NBC’s beloved show, has recently joined the producing team.

Audiences can expect a thrilling backstage journey as SMASH explores the chaotic world leading up to the grand opening of “Bombshell,” an ambitious new musical centered around the iconic figure of Marilyn Monroe. This captivating narrative promises to be a whirlwind of comedic challenges, compelling surprises, dynamic production numbers, and beloved songs like “Let Me Be Your Star,” all of which were featured in the original television series that inspired this musical adaptation.
