From Journalism to Interior Design: A Career in Home Transformation

Adrienne Breaux, a notable figure in the world of interior design, has combined her early inspirations with a professional journey that bridges multiple creative disciplines. Having grown up immersed in home improvement shows like “This Old House” and “New Yankee Workshop,” she developed a deep appreciation for transforming living spaces to reflect personal lifestyles and tastes.

Breaux’s academic path began in journalism but took a turn towards a BA in Interior Design from Louisiana State University. This shift marked the beginning of her unique career that intertwines writing, photography, and design. Her diverse experiences include working in both modern and antique furniture stores, participating in various residential and commercial design projects, and contributing articles on art and architecture to numerous publications. One of her most memorable moments was interviewing renowned collage artist Rex Ray, known for his collaborations with David Bowie, for “Uppercase Magazine.”

For over a decade, Breaux has been a key player at Apartment Therapy, where she has curated impressive house tours showcasing aesthetics from around the globe. Her passion for home design is further enriched by her personal experiences, having lived in a spectrum of residences—from a van and a converted store in Texas to a studio apartment with ties to music icon Willie Nelson. These experiences fuel her drive to highlight how individuals can enhance their living environments, regardless of the space’s size or shape, and inspire others to cultivate beautiful, functional homes. Breaux believes that loving where you live is crucial to personal fulfillment.

Apart from her professional pursuits, Breaux finds joy in traveling, capturing unique moments as part of her Atlas Obscura wish lists, and engaging in creative activities like art-making and photography. She also enjoys hosting elaborate themed Halloween parties and keeping abreast of the latest trends in science fiction and horror cinema. Currently, Breaux resides in her maximalist dream home in New Orleans, Louisiana, alongside her partner, an affectionate dog, and a charming cat.
