Transforming a House into a Vibrant Sanctuary
Teplin’s transition from a semi-custom home to a fully tailored residence reflects a deep-seated vision she had for her new space. She aimed to cultivate an atmosphere that is both vibrant and cozy, describing the desired outcome as a “timeless house.” With frequent travel demands due to her profession, it was essential for her home to function as a sanctuary, exuding the luxurious ambiance of a well-appointed hotel. “The experience of being in a beautiful hotel… it transcends all things,” she explained, highlighting the blend of luxury and escapism that inspired her design decisions. While comfort was a priority, Teplin was keen to ensure the house maintained a warm and inviting feel, integrating playful elements without veering into starkness. “I wanted to have a really warm, welcoming house for my family and friends, but also make it just this elevated, fun jewel box of crazy colors and timelessness,” she noted.
The entryway stands out for its sophistication, complemented by picture frame molding—a detail Teplin insisted on wherever wallpaper was not used. “Wherever there wasn’t wallpaper planned, I wanted to make sure to have picture frame molding,” she remarked. To enhance the beauty of the space, Robinson added a custom mosaic tile floor and sourced a stunning oval mirror from Perigold.
During the design process, although Teplin and Robinson had collaborated recently, they began anew for this home, retaining only a handful of pieces from the previous residence. Robinson describes their design approach as “very clean and classic, but with some pattern play and color.” One of the most exhilarating aspects of the design was the opportunity for “color drenching”—a hallmark of Teplin’s style. Visitors are greeted upon entry by a striking Farrow & Ball Radicchio red, setting the tone for the rest of the home. In addition, Gucci wallpaper brings a vibrant flair to both the dining area and Teplin’s office space. Teplin expresses confidence in her bold choices, stating, “When something’s beautiful, I feel like it’s always beautiful.”
The dining room showcases the eye-catching New Flora print wallpaper, which captures attention and adds vibrancy to the room. To complete the dining experience, Robinson dressed six chairs sourced from Lee Industries in a custom green velvet fabric and selected a round dining table from Garde.
