Discovering Home: The Journey of Adrienne Breaux
Adrienne Breaux’s passion for interior design and home transformation took root in her childhood, influenced by classic television programs such as “This Old House” and “New Yankee Workshop.” Watching these shows with her parents sparked an early understanding that home environments could be customized to reflect individual lifestyles and preferences. Beyond mere function, Breaux recognized the joy that comes from creating spaces that resonate with personal identity.
Upon entering higher education, Breaux initially pursued a degree in journalism but ultimately earned a BA in Interior Design from Louisiana State University. This academic journey set the stage for her multifaceted professional career, combining her interests in writing, photography, and design. Over the years, she has accumulated experience in various roles—including positions at both modern and antique furniture stores, involvement in diverse residential and commercial interior design projects, and contributions to numerous print and online publications. A notable achievement during her writing career was the opportunity to interview Rex Ray, a renowned collage artist and collaborator with David Bowie, for “Uppercase Magazine.”
For more than a decade, Breaux has been at the helm of Apartment Therapy’s real home content, where she curates and showcases thousands of beautiful house tours from across the globe. Her work emphasizes the creativity shared by individuals as they transform their living spaces into expressions of themselves, regardless of the home’s original condition.
Breaux’s eclectic living experiences—from residing in a van and converting a former downtown store in Texas to living in a studio apartment once purportedly owned by Willie Nelson—inspired her commitment to highlight the ways in which people adapt their homes to suit their needs. She believes that loving one’s home can significantly contribute to an individual’s overall well-being and self-expression.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Breaux enjoys traveling and continues to explore unique destinations while compiling never-ending wish lists from Atlas Obscura. Her interests extend to photography, creating and appreciating art, hosting exceptional themed Halloween parties annually, and keeping abreast of the latest in science fiction and horror cinema. Currently, she resides in her maximalist dream home located in New Orleans, Louisiana, sharing the space with her partner, an adorable dog, and a charming cat.
