Embracing Design: A Journey Through Personal Spaces
The influence of home transformation can be profound, shaping our lifestyles and enhancing our environments. For many, including myself, the inspiration begins at an early age, often sparked by engaging television shows. Programs like “This Old House” and “New Yankee Workshop” not only entertained but also instilled a sense of possibility—teaching that one can adapt and personalize their surroundings with creativity and joy.
A Journey of Discovery
Initially venturing into journalism during college at Louisiana State University, I eventually found my passion in interior design, graduating with a BA in the field. This academic journey fueled my dual interests in storytelling and aesthetics, allowing me to explore an array of professional avenues where these passions intersect. Throughout my career, I have gained experience in both the retail aspect of design—working in diverse furniture stores ranging from sleek, modern styles to charming antiques—and the more creative side, engaging in both residential and commercial projects.
Professional Highlights and Next Steps
My writing career took flight as I penned articles about art, architecture, and design for various publications. A notable moment was my interview with renowned collage artist and David Bowie collaborator Rex Ray, featured in “Uppercase Magazine.” This triumph came alongside a decade of leading Apartment Therapy’s real home content, where I crafted thousands of captivating house tours that showcase unique lifestyles around the globe.
Living Spaces and Personal Insights
Complementing my professional experiences, I have also lived in a diverse array of homes—from a van to a repurposed downtown store in Texas, and even a studio apartment said to have belonged to the legendary Willie Nelson. These varied living situations ignited a passion for highlighting the ways individuals can optimize their homes, regardless of size or condition, encouraging others to create spaces that are both beautiful and functional.
I firmly believe that a well-loved home can empower individuals to become their best selves. This belief drives my ongoing mission to inspire and support others in their own design journeys. In my free time, I indulge in travel, capture moments through photography, create and appreciate art, and host an annual themed Halloween party. Currently, my maximalist dream home is nestled in New Orleans, Louisiana, where I share life with my partner, our delightful dog, and an adorable cat.
