[Warning: The following post contains MAJOR spoilers for The Hunting Party Season 1 Episode 7 “Mark Marsden.”]
What secrets are lurking within Silo 12?
The latest installment of The Hunting Party featured Bex (Melissa Roxburgh), Oliver (Nick Wechsler), and Hassani (Patrick Sabongui) delving into the breached Silo 12, the location tied to a catastrophic event prior to the explosion at the Pit. Here, they stumble upon a grisly scene, one indicative of a massacre, with removed bodies and bloodstains scattered throughout what resembles a conference room. This eerie setting includes a viewing area where it seems inmates were subjected to experiments for the observation of others. Meanwhile, Shane (Josh McKenzie) continues with his ruse, posing as the son of Dr. Dulles (Matt Frewer), a scientist connected to the Pit, as he navigates an encounter with Dulles’ true daughter.
In an exclusive interview, showrunner Jake Coburn delves into the enigma surrounding Silo 12 and offers a glimpse of what’s to come as the season progresses.
Oliver claims to have received a breach notification at Silo 12 before the explosion. Can we trust his account?
Jake Coburn: Yes, his account is accurate.
In this episode, Bex raises an intriguing point regarding the unchanged access code. Should this spark concerns regarding its unaltered status? Is someone intentionally leading them to uncover these findings, perhaps as a challenge aimed at Oliver?
Your instincts as a storyteller are sharp. While I can’t delve too deeply into specifics, the intrigue you highlight is definitely something we plan to develop in future seasons.
Regarding the Silo 12 revelations—evidence of a massacre with bodies absent and the unsettling observation room—what was your intent in showcasing these elements at the episode’s conclusion?
Our goal was to illustrate the original scene of the crime, revealing the factors that led to the chaos—particularly in this disturbing boardroom where inhumane experiments were witnessed. It lends a darker tone to the series.
What prompted these revelations at this juncture in the season?
The timing is intentional, as we are on the cusp of unveiling key answers about the overarching story. Episodes 7 through 10 are pivotal in providing clarity to many of the questions posed thus far.
What can you divulge about the actual activities within Silo 12 preceding the explosion?
While I’m limited in what I can share, I can confirm that the operations conducted there were deeply unethical and likely warranted secrecy.
Each silo seems to harbor its own unique circumstances. Are there parallels among silos, such as the possibility of another Silo 12 operating elsewhere?
I appreciate your probing questions. We’re eager to explore these narrative possibilities, hinting at a broader world without revealing too much at this stage.
Concerning the drug discovered by Bex, linked to Richard Harris—will this lead her to substantial answers by season’s end?
The drug and its associated company will be crucial aspects of the narrative, particularly in the season finale.
Hassani questions Bex’s trust in Oliver, and she admits he’s being truthful about Silo 12. How much faith does she currently place in him?
This is a significant concern for her. While she senses the goodness within Oliver Odell, she’s also aware of his darker side. Her intuition suggests he is being honest, and she seems willing to follow that instinct. Although she knows he can be deceptive, her observations lead her to believe in his current honesty.
It appears her confidence in him has increased since season’s beginning.
I would agree with that assessment.
However, as she uncovers more truths, could her trust in him waver? Where does she stand on that spectrum?
Exactly. This tension will surface more prominently in the upcoming episodes, with pivotal questions about their relationship and trust being addressed. Shane’s mysterious arc will also play a significant role in these developments.
What would it take for Hassani to fully trust Oliver?
That seems unlikely. While he may trust Oliver to some degree, he has a generally cautious nature.
What about Bex; does he have unwavering trust in her?
He places near complete trust in Bex, yet remains cognizant of her potential blind spots. As a CIA operative, he’s programmed to be skeptical of nearly everyone beyond his family.
Comparing team dynamics, does Hassani trust Bex more than Shane, or vice versa?
It’s difficult to say definitively. Both individuals command a respect from him, making them the closest to those he trusts.
Shane is revealed not to be Dr. Dulles’ son. What can you share about his actual connection to Dulles and his motivations?
Audiences will soon receive clarification regarding Shane’s situation. His deception is rooted more in a quest for truth rather than malice. As viewers discover more, it will become clear that his determination stems from a genuine desire to gather information.
Melissa indicated that Episode 9 is the series’ most intense, featuring a sadistic antagonist and team members facing peril. How does that play out?
What she said is accurate. Each episode showcases varied tones; Episode 7 is relatively lighter, in contrast to the darker scenes of episodes like 4. Episode 9 will indeed deliver a frightening experience for the viewers, marked by high tension before the finale. However, I cannot disclose specifics of who may be in jeopardy.
What can be said about the finale’s setup for a possible second season?
We aim to go all out, ensuring the storyline is engaging and packed with unexpected twists. I look forward to audiences experiencing it and hope they come away feeling both surprised and fulfilled, as many secrets will be unveiled that will intrigue them.
How would you characterize the cliffhanger of the season finale?
Heart-pounding.
Is anyone’s life truly at stake?
All I can say is that the tension is palpable.
