Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, labeled the actions of suspended MP Rupert Lowe as “disgusting” and “contemptible” in private messages revealed by the BBC. This dispute follows Lowe’s critical remarks about Farage in a recent interview with the Daily Mail, where he characterized the party as a “protest party” led by a “Messiah,” prompting a strong reaction from party leadership.

Following these comments, Lowe faced suspension from Reform UK on March 7 and was subsequently referred to the police. The party publicly stated that allegations had been made against Lowe, including threats of violence directed at party chairman Zia Yusuf, along with claims of workplace bullying. Lowe vehemently denies all allegations against him.

In his suspension announcement, the party asserted that the decision was based on serious complaints, not directly related to his criticism. However, the sequence of events raises questions about the motivations behind the suspension. Just two days before his suspension, Lowe had expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s direction, prompting speculation regarding the timing of the decision.

Many former allies of Farage and Lowe have expressed disappointment in the party’s handling of the situation. One staff member described Farage as “thin-skinned and egotistical,” stating they felt compelled to defend him for years but now perceived a shift in his leadership style.

Concerns have been raised regarding the involvement of external parties, with some speculating that recent endorsements of Lowe by influential figures like Elon Musk intensified tensions between him and the party leadership. Critics of Farage argue that inviting police involvement was an extreme measure, further illustrating the divide within Reform UK.
