Eyeball Games has announced the forthcoming global launch of its immersive mobile pool game, Pool Masters, alongside a new partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, inspired by the famous animated franchise, How to Train Your Dragon.
Based in Singapore, Eyeball Games is collaborating with Universal to create a limited-time integration that will coincide with the theatrical release of the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon by Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation, set to hit theaters on June 13, 2025.
As part of this collaboration, Pool Masters will introduce five custom-designed cues influenced by beloved characters from the franchise, including Toothless, Stormfly, Hookfang, Meatlug, and Terrible Terror. These uniquely crafted cues are expected to enhance both the fantasy elements of the game and the strategies involved in play.
Eyeball Games was established by creators of the hit mobile game 8 Ball Pool, which has garnered over a billion downloads on both iOS and Android platforms. The company has successfully raised $3.3 million from various investors, including White Star Capital, which is associated with gaming powerhouse Ubisoft, as well as early-stage investors like Sebastian Knutsson, co-founder of King.
Jonathan Ivarsson, CEO of Eyeball Games, emphasized the need for innovation in the online pool gaming landscape, stating, “The world of online pool playing is desperately in need of new energy which we’re bringing with the launch of Pool Masters. Players will love how we’ve enhanced the traditional gaming experience to include a focus on collectibles, a competitive league system, and exciting brand collaborations beginning with How to Train Your Dragon.”
Pool Masters aims to elevate the 8-ball pool experience through a combination of advanced technology and engaging gameplay features. It will incorporate a next-generation physics engine for enhanced realism, global leaderboards to foster competitive play, and limited-edition cues with distinctive characteristics to refine both style and skill. Additionally, a pioneering marketplace feature will allow players to trade cues for digital assets.
Players eager to engage with Pool Masters can pre-register to receive an exclusive item: the limited-edition Pool Masters Black Widow Cue, which promises to enhance gameplay with its spider-themed design that marries aesthetics with performance.
Francois Daoud, the chief marketing officer at Eyeball Games, discussed the unique aspects of the game in an interview with GamesBeat. He mentioned that the game will feature dragon animations, including Toothless soaring around the themed pool table, alongside designer cues that reflect the franchise’s spirit. “With the reboot of the franchise as a live-action film, the level of awareness is going to soar,” Daoud remarked, indicating that the promotional campaign would evolve as time goes on, revealing even more collaborations in the future.
Daoud also highlighted the collaborative process with Universal, noting that while reskinning takes considerable time and coordination, the partnership has facilitated relatively swift approvals. “Each one of these will be amazing opportunities to have a massive marketing push,” he added, mentioning that Eyeball Games, with a dedicated team of 23, is poised to leverage these opportunities effectively.
