F1 Academy’s New Docuseries Set to Debut on Netflix
The eagerly anticipated Netflix docuseries F1: The Academy is scheduled for a global launch on May 28, 2025. This series is produced by Hello Sunshine, the production company founded by acclaimed actress Reese Witherspoon.
Viewers will be taken behind the scenes of the F1 Academy’s all-female racing grid as they navigate the challenges and triumphs of the 2024 season. This intimate look promises to showcase not only the racing action but also personal stories from the talented female drivers involved.
Susie Wolff, managing director of F1 Academy and an executive producer for the series, expressed her enthusiasm upon the announcement, stating, “The global launch of the F1 Academy docuseries on Netflix marks a significant advancement in visibility for our mission, and it strongly affirms the growing momentum behind women’s sports.”
Wolff highlighted the series’ potential to inspire future generations, adding, “We aim to motivate and empower young women, and with Netflix’s vast reach, F1 Academy will connect with a global audience of both existing and prospective fans.”
Fans have already received sneak peeks of the series via social media updates from drivers like Bianca Bustamante and Maya Weug, who have shared their excitement on platforms such as Instagram.
Weug even provided a glimpse into her experience as the first female member of Ferrari’s driver academy by showcasing the film crew during a visit to their headquarters in Maranello.
This docuseries is part of a broader marketing initiative for F1 Academy, aimed at enhancing the visibility of women in motorsport since the series launched in 2023. The initiative has received substantial support from all ten Formula 1 teams and major brands, including TAG Heuer and Charlotte Tilbury, kicking off in early 2024. Additionally, the grid is set to expand from 15 to 18 cars in 2025, further amplifying interest in the series.
Chloe Chambers, a driver supported by Red Bull Ford, remarked to Autosport, “The attention generated by media coverage, especially this year with the involvement of F1 teams and the Netflix documentary, is going to elevate the series next year and beyond. This momentum isn’t just beneficial for the drivers but for the series as a whole.”
Given the success of Formula 1’s previous series, Drive to Survive, in boosting the sport’s popularity, expectations are high that F1: The Academy will have a similar impact on elevating women’s motorsport.
