Investigation Underway After Plane Crash in Copake, New York
Authorities are actively probing a tragic plane crash that occurred Saturday afternoon in a muddy field near Copake, New York. The incident involved a Mitsubishi MU-2B aircraft that was en route to Columbia County Airport in Hudson, New York, and went down around 12:15 p.m. local time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Responding to the scene were vehicles from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. Reports indicate that six individuals occupied the aircraft, as confirmed by FAA officials. While local authorities have labeled the crash as fatal, they have withheld details regarding the number of victims and their identities pending family notifications.
The crash site, described as an open field, prompted a 911 call, and investigators are currently interviewing witnesses to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
At this time, the identities of the passengers on board have not been disclosed, and there has been no preliminary determination of the crash’s cause. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which is leading the investigation, has announced that a go-team will be dispatched to the area for a detailed examination, with team members expected to arrive that evening.
In a related matter, earlier that same day, a separate incident occurred when a Cessna 560XL plane experienced a hard landing at Crossville Memorial Airport in Tennessee at around 8:15 a.m. local time. This aircraft, which also had five individuals aboard, reportedly slid off the runway; thankfully, no injuries or fatalities have been reported in that case.
The recent string of aviation incidents includes a distressing helicopter crash that took place in the Hudson River on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of all six individuals onboard. That incident involved a Bell 206 L-4 helicopter, and the victims included a family from Spain, notably Siemens executive Agustin Escobar and his wife, Mercè Camprubà Montal, along with their three young children.
As the investigation into the Copake plane crash continues, authorities remain focused on uncovering the details behind these tragic events that have shaken the local communities.
