Upcoming Snowfall Forecast for the Midstate
As the PA Farm Show approaches, the Midstate is poised for another round of snowy weather. Following last Friday’s light snow showers, the primary snowfall event is expected to occur on Monday. While the heaviest accumulation may be to the south, many regions could still see several inches, marking this as potentially the largest snow of the season for many residents.
The storm system will draw a low-pressure center traveling through Virginia and North Carolina. Due to its southern track, the Midstate might miss out on the most substantial snowfall; however, the northern edge of the system could still deliver significant snowfall. Areas near the Maryland border, like Gettysburg and Chambersburg, could experience snow rates exceeding an inch per hour on Monday, leading to noteworthy totals.
Snowfall is projected to commence by sunrise and persist throughout the day before gradually decreasing in the evening. Commuters are advised to keep a close eye on weather updates and radar, as temperatures will remain below freezing, making it easier for snow to accumulate on roads and bridges. Since this will be the first snow requiring plowing this winter, travelers should plan for potentially longer travel times.
In terms of accumulation, the heaviest snow is predicted just south of the Mason-Dixon Line, with areas near the Maryland border likely receiving between 3-6 inches. Some mountainous regions may see even higher totals. In contrast, locations north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike could experience lighter snowfall, estimated between 1-3 inches. It’s essential to note that even slight shifts in the storm’s track could affect total snowfall, so ongoing updates will be provided throughout the weekend.
While this weather event is not expected to cause alarm, residents are encouraged to stay informed about the conditions for Monday.
