As reported by the local news outlet Corriere della Sera. their vehicle fell victim to a roadway collapse around 8 p.m. As heavy rains and adverse weather conditions affected the area, the circumstances leading to their drive remain uncertain, though early reports suggest they might have been volunteering to assist others in need.

The alarm was raised by family members after the duo failed to return home by 2 a.m. the following day, prompting them to contact local authorities. Subsequent investigations led to the discovery of Leone’s body approximately six miles from where the accident took place, likely swept away by the strong currents. Meanwhile, Francesco’s body was found closer to the vehicle, which may indicate he tried to escape prior to being fully overtaken by the water.
