Fawad’s Reaction Amidst Rising Criticism Following Tensions between India and Pakistan
Fawad Khan has publicly addressed the tragic terror attack that occurred in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of several innocent tourists. Utilizing his Instagram Stories, the Pakistani actor expressed his sorrow, stating, “Deeply saddened to hear the news of the heinous attack in Pahalgam. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this horrifying incident and we pray for strength and healing for their families in this difficult time.”
This response from Fawad comes at a time when he and his co-star from the upcoming film Abir Gulaal, Vaani Kapoor, are facing escalating criticism spurred by the persistent political tensions between India and Pakistan. Since its announcement, the film has been surrounded by controversy, and the recent attack has amplified calls from various factions to boycott the project.
Vaani Kapoor has also conveyed her condolences, sharing her emotional turmoil on social media: “Have been numb, at a loss of words since the time I have seen the attack on innocent people in Pahalgam. Gutted. Devastated. My prayers are with the families.”
Social media platforms have seen an influx of criticism directed at Vaani for her continued promotion of Abir Gulaal, which many users consider “insensitive” and “unpatriotic.” One comment read, “Shame on these low life people who dance on people’s grave,” while another stated, “You betrayed our nation, Vaani.” This backlash has sparked a broader discussion regarding Bollywood’s collaborations with Pakistani artists in the context of prevailing national grief.
The journey of Abir Gulaal has been fraught with challenges even prior to its release. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had previously voiced its opposition to the film, asserting that any project featuring a Pakistani actor would be prohibited from screening in the state. Despite Fawad Khan’s prior popularity in Indian cinema through films like Kapoor & Sons and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, he has refrained from appearing in Bollywood projects in recent years, largely due to the strained political environment.
The outcry against Abir Gulaal has also led to calls for boycotting Vaani Kapoor’s other upcoming films, including Raid 2, which is scheduled for release on May 1.
