Fugitive Linked to Two Atlanta Homicides Captured

A man accused of two separate murders in Atlanta earlier this year has been apprehended. The individual, identified as Corey Comer, had been wanted by both the FBI and local law enforcement.

Investigators reported that Comer, aged 20, is alleged to have killed 37-year-old Douglas Banks outside a library on Cleveland Avenue on May 6, followed by the shooting of 17-year-old Kendarius Davis at an apartment complex on Mount Zion Road SE on November 17. Atlanta Police confirmed that Comer was arrested on Friday and is currently being held in Fulton County Jail, facing charges including murder and aggravated assault.

Atlanta Police had placed Comer on their Most Wanted list as of last month, although they have not disclosed the circumstances or location of his arrest.

Notably, detectives have indicated that Comer utilized a device known as a “glock switch” during the shooting of Banks. This device enables a semi-automatic handgun to function as a fully automatic weapon, capable of firing approximately 20 rounds per second. The FBI has cautioned that such modifications are highly dangerous, as they increase the risk of collateral damage, potentially resulting in innocent bystanders being harmed along with the intended target.

According to the FBI’s Atlanta office, there has been a startling 570% rise in the discovery of such switches at crime scenes across the nation from 2012 to 2021. The agency now reports encountering these devices in nearly every search warrant executed in metro Atlanta related to gangs or violent crime.
