FedEx Driver Arrested for Dumping Packages in Florida
A FedEx driver has been apprehended by law enforcement after allegedly discarding packages in a woodland area due to time constraints on his delivery schedule.
According to an official statement from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, contracted FedEx employee Latavion Lewis was arrested last week. He now faces multiple charges, including organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, and illegal dumping.
The law enforcement agency initiated action after receiving reports from residents of Bonifay regarding various packages found discarded in nearby woods and along the roadside. In response, the sheriff’s office coordinated with FedEx to determine the identity of the driver involved.
This investigation led to Lewis, a contracted driver from Alabama, who consented to a meeting with deputies at the sheriff’s office.

During the meeting, Lewis reportedly confessed to the deputies that he chose to dispose of the undelivered packages instead of returning them to the FedEx facility, citing the late hour as a reason for his decision, according to the statement provided by the sheriff’s office.
Law enforcement has successfully recovered all 44 discarded packages. These items have been returned to a local post office to ensure they reach their intended recipients.
Sheriff John Tate praised the swift actions of his deputies in identifying and apprehending the suspect. He also expressed gratitude to the Bonifay Post Office for their assistance in locating and delivering the recovered parcels.
In light of the incident, Lewis is no longer associated with FedEx. A spokesperson from the company confirmed this to The Independent.
The spokesperson emphasized, “This incident is completely unacceptable as the safe and secure transport of our customers’ shipments is a top priority, and we are fully cooperating with authorities in their investigation. In addition to being charged with criminal offenses, the individual involved is no longer providing service for our company.”
Holmes County, located in the Florida panhandle, is home to approximately 20,000 residents and is situated just south of the Alabama border, about 100 miles from Tallahassee, Florida.
The Independent reached out to the Holmes County Jail for further details but was informed that officers would not be available for comment until December 27. The publication has also attempted to contact FedEx for additional statements.
