Fetterman Jokes About DeSantis’ Shoe Lifts in Defense Secretary Speculation
On Wednesday, Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) lightheartedly suggested he might support the confirmation of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) as Defense Secretary—if DeSantis confesses to using shoe lifts.
In a social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Fetterman wrote, “I’ll consider a YES on him if he finally admits to his boots with 4” lifts.” This humorous comment comes amidst rumors about a potential shift in Trump’s cabinet.
Fetterman shared a screenshot from The Hill, referencing a report from The Wall Street Journal regarding former President Donald Trump’s contemplation of replacing his initial selection for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, with DeSantis. These rumors have circulated alongside speculation about DeSantis’ height, particularly during his unsuccessful presidential campaign.
As for Hegseth, his candidacy for the Pentagon’s top position has hit some turbulence, exacerbated by recent allegations regarding past behavior, including alleged alcohol abuse and sexual misconduct, which have raised concerns among Senate Republicans.
In a rebuttal to the controversy surrounding him, Hegseth asserted on X that he is being unfairly targeted by a concerted effort from Democratic adversaries. He stated, “I’m doing this for the warfighters, not the warmongers. The Left is afraid of disrupters and change agents. They are afraid of @realDonaldTrump—and me.”
Hegseth further elaborated on the attacks he faces, claiming they stem from “fake, anonymous sources & BS stories.” He expressed confidence, asserting that “our warriors never back down, & neither will I.”
Last month, Trump expressed his endorsement of Hegseth for the Defense Secretary position, praising him as “tough, smart and a true believer in America First.” Trump assured that Hegseth would ensure the military is robust and that America would stand firm against its enemies.
The Hill has sought additional commentary from DeSantis’s communications team regarding these developments.
