Sen. Fetterman Urges Trump to Take Military Action Against Iran
Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) has publicly urged President Trump to consider military action against Iran, specifically advocating for the “strike and destroy” of Iran’s nuclear facilities ahead of a crucial round of negotiations expected to take place later this week.
In an interview with the Washington Free Beacon, Fetterman expressed his skepticism regarding the viability of negotiations with Iran, claiming that the regime has a long history of destabilizing the region. He is optimistic about the current opportunity to take decisive military action against Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
As the Trump administration approaches the end of a two-month timeline aimed at reaching a potential agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program, Trump has remained confident about forthcoming discussions. However, doubts persist over whether a consensus can be achieved on key issues, including the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program.
Fetterman dismissed warnings from foreign policy experts about the potential for a regional conflict if the U.S. were to initiate strikes on Iran. He criticized Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant group, questioning its military capabilities, and referred disparagingly to Hamas, labeling them as “a bunch of tunnel rats with junkie rockets in the back of a Toyota truck.”
The future of U.S.-Iran negotiations remains uncertain, particularly concerning whether the Trump administration will pursue a deal akin to the Obama-era agreement, which placed restrictions on Iran’s nuclear development while allowing its infrastructure to remain intact.
Reflecting on the past, Fetterman acknowledged that he understood Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Obama-era deal, but he now finds it difficult to comprehend why negotiations are even being considered with what he termed a “diseased regime.”
He further emphasized his stance on military action, stating, “The negotiations should be comprised of 30,000-pound bombs and the IDF [Israel Defense Forces].”
Fetterman has positioned himself as a prominent voice within the Democratic Party in support of Israel, particularly amid the ongoing conflict with Hamas and other regional adversaries.
