Fans have been eagerly anticipating news regarding the second season of Guy Ritchie’s popular Netflix series, The Gentlemen. Although there is now some promising information, it may indicate a longer wait for viewers to dive back into this story of an aristocrat and his thriving drug empire.
According to a report from Screen Global Production, filming for The Gentlemen Season 2 has recently commenced, with production returning to the UK. The follow-up will mirror its predecessor with eight new episodes. Despite the series being renewed in August of the previous year, the process took considerable time to begin, suggesting that audiences might not see a release until 2026.
Scheduled to debut on Netflix in March 2024, The Gentlemen serves as a spin-off of Ritchie’s 2019 crime comedy featuring a notable cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, and Hugh Grant. The film was well-received, and the associated series has similarly garnered positive reactions. An official synopsis for the series reads:
“When aristocratic Eddie inherits the family estate, he discovers that it’s home to an enormous weed empire — and its proprietors aren’t going anywhere.”

Featuring Theo James as Edward “Eddie” Horniman, a former Army captain and the 14th Duke of Halstead, The Gentlemen boasts a cast that includes Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, and Giancarlo Esposito. The series was a significant success for Netflix, amassing nearly 1.21 billion minutes of global viewing within its first four days and securing favorable ratings of 75% from critics and 84% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics’ consensus describes the series as, “Slick as a well-pressed suit and given watchable wattage by its cast.”
Despite its success, Netflix took an unusually long time to officially renew The Gentlemen for a second season. After its March release, confirmation of the show’s return did not come for five months. This delay may contribute to the long wait for its second season, highlighting a growing trend where gaps between seasons are extending, leaving many viewers nostalgic for the days of consistent yearly releases.
While specific plot details for Season 2 are currently under wraps, returning star Theo James has hinted to THR that the new season will be “bigger and darker than season one.” He emphasized that both he and creator Guy Ritchie are committed to evolving the series. “As enjoyable as the first season was, repeating the same formula might not yield the same excitement,” he stated.
