WASHINGTON — Below is the schedule for the final day of memorial services dedicated to Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, whose passing occurred on December 29. All timings are in Eastern Standard Time:
9 a.m. — The departure of Carter’s casket from the U.S. Capitol marks the beginning of the funeral motorcade, which will head to the Washington National Cathedral.
9:30 a.m. — The motorcade is scheduled to arrive at Washington National Cathedral.
10 a.m. — The formal funeral service will commence in Washington, honoring Carter’s legacy and contributions to the nation.
11:15 a.m. — Following the service, Carter’s remains along with his family will leave the cathedral for Joint Base Andrews.
11:45 a.m. — The family will board Special Air Mission 39, designated for transporting dignitaries.
2 p.m. — Special Air Mission 39 is set to land at Lawson Army Airfield in Fort Moore, Georgia. A ceremonial transfer of Carter’s remains to a hearse will take place, after which Carter and his family will proceed to Plains via motorcade.
3:30 p.m. — The motorcade is expected to reach Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.
3:45 p.m. — An invitation-only funeral service will begin at the church, providing an intimate space for family and close friends to pay their respects.
4:45 p.m. — Participants in the funeral will be transported from the church to the Carter family residence.
5:20 p.m. — A U.S. Navy missing man formation will conduct a flyover to honor Carter’s service in the Navy and his tenure as Commander in Chief, followed by a private graveside service and the interment.
