Florida’s Culinary Landscape Shines with New Michelin Stars
Florida’s vibrant food scene is receiving a significant nod this year as the latest Michelin Guide Florida has announced its new selections. Five restaurants across the state have been awarded prestigious Michelin stars, including one remarkable establishment elevated to two-star status. The guide has also expanded its coverage to include new regions: Greater Fort Lauderdale, The Palm Beaches, and St. Pete-Clearwater.
In total, 31 restaurants have been recognized by Michelin’s anonymous inspectors, among which Sorekara, located in Orlando, stands out as Florida’s newest double-star restaurant. Previously, the only Florida eatery boasting two stars was L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Miami.
The recognition of Sorekara comes as no surprise, as chef and founder William Shen crafts a tasting menu that intricately explores the 72 micro-seasons of Japan. Diners can expect an immersive experience that lasts several hours and spans multiple rooms, even featuring a course designed to mimic a visit to a Japanese convenience store. Those hoping to savor this unique dining experience should be aware that Sorekara operates on a limited schedule, with only a single seating available a few nights a week.
Alongside Sorekara’s ascension, four additional restaurants across Florida have received their first Michelin star:
Konro (West Palm Beach): At this intimate 10-seat omakase-style counter, chef Jacob Bickelhaupt and sommelier Nadia Bickelhaupt present a tasting menu featuring 10 to 14 courses that highlight exceptional culinary craftsmanship.
Chef’s Counter at MAASS (Fort Lauderdale): Located within the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale, chef Ryan Ratino’s tasting menu deftly fuses contemporary culinary techniques with French, Japanese, and Floridian influences.
Itamae AO (Miami): This 10-seat counter offers a unique dining opportunity within a restaurant, where chef Nando Chang serves fresh Peruvian-Japanese dishes.
Ômo by Jônt (Winter Park): An extension of chef Ryan Ratino’s acclaimed Washington D.C. restaurant, this eight-seat counter specializes in Japanese seafood delicacies prepared with French culinary techniques.
Additionally, Stubborn Seed and EntreNos in Miami both earned Michelin Green Stars, highlighting their commitment to sustainable gastronomy.
Reflecting on the Michelin recognition, local residents can take pride in Palm Beach County’s strong performance in this inaugural year. Noteworthy mentions include Buccan, favored among locals and highly recommended for visitors, as well as Coolinary, The Parched Pig, Moody Tongue Sushi, Nicholson Muir, Stäge Kitchen & Bar, and The Butcher’s Club, all of which have achieved Michelin Recommended status. Moreover, Aioli and Palm Beach Meats have both secured Bib Gourmand distinctions for their remarkable quality and value.
“Receiving a Bib Gourmand feels surreal,” shares Meghan San Pedro, co-owner of Palm Beach Meats. “Our passion for Wagyu drove us to start this venture.”
