Florence Pugh and David Harbour recently spoke with “Extra’s” Jake Hamilton about their upcoming film, “Thunderbolts.”
Pugh revealed an extraordinary stunt in which she had to leap from the second-tallest building in the world, without any safety net below. “When I read it, I thought… obviously I’d be wearing a harness, but like there would always be something underneath me,” Pugh explained. “Then I remember a couple of weeks before the stunt, I asked one of the stunt coordinators, ‘Well, where’s the net?’ They replied, ‘Well, we can’t rig a net around the building.’ That realization hit me hard!”
She expressed admiration for Tom Cruise, acknowledging his contributions to the world of stunts. Pugh hopes that her daring feat will earn her some recognition in that realm. “I hope he thinks I’m cool enough, but I just love everything he does and how vocal he is about the stunt industry. I wouldn’t have been able to perform any of this without our amazing stunt team,” she stated.
Harbour shared his excitement about delivering the iconic line, “We are the Thunderbolts!” commenting, “It’s a great moment. There’s actually more nuance in that line in the film than what the trailers show, but it’s fantastic to be the one who gets to yell it out just before jumping into action.”
With a touch of humor, Harbour remarked, “I’m the only guy who thinks we’re a team.”
During the conversation, they also touched on “Avengers: Doomsday.” Harbour expressed a desire to interact with veteran X-Men characters. “I would love to work alongside Ian McKellen, and see Alan Cumming return as Nightcrawler, and of course, Rebecca Romijn in her iconic blue as Mystique,” he added.
He playfully noted, “I want Mystique to take on the role of Red Guardian at some point,” to which Hamilton pointed out, “That means you’d have to portray Mystique.”
Harbour humorously agreed, saying, “I get to play Mystique playing me… My brain would explode.”
“Thunderbolts” is set to release on May 2.
